Plant Buying Preferences
Thank you for considering supplying plants to my shop! I love to work with local Lowcountry growers.
To streamline things, I have a few preferences:
-
Uniform Pot Sizing: It’s helpful if plants of the same kind are in the same pot size (e.g., all small Alocasias in 4" round pots) rather than mixed sizes and shapes. This consistency makes pricing and listing on my website much easier. If you need pots, I have plenty of 4" and 6" nursery pots available for free.
-
Plastic nursery pots only: No decorative ceramic or thrifted pots. Your plants should blend in seamlessly with the rest of my plant inventory.
-
No Top Dressing: Please avoid using top dressing like pebbles, as they can get messy when disturbed.
-
Plant Requests: I’m open to almost any houseplant, with frequent requests for String of Pearls, trendy rare tropicals, carnivorous plants, and Hoyas such as 'Kerii' (multiple leaves) and 'Obovata.'
-
Wholesale Terms: Wholesale pricing is the discounted price a business pays when buying products in bulk from a supplier. It’s lower than the price customers pay in stores (retail price) because the buyer is purchasing larger quantities to resell. This allows the business to make a profit by selling the products at retail price. For example, if a plant costs $5 at wholesale and is sold for $12 in a shop, the $7 difference is the shop's profit. Typically houseplants are sold wholesale at 40% - 50% of the retail price.
Wholesale terms allow you to get paid all at once up front.
- Right of Refusal: I will pay in cash, check, or Venmo upon delivery. However, please note that I reserve the right to refuse plants that don’t have a well-established rootball or otherwise look unhealthy.
If you have plants that fit my shop’s offerings, I’d be happy to discuss further. Please send a line sheet with a list of your plants and wholesale prices (photos are a plus) to hello@castandgrey.com. Thank you!
